Ready-to-lay pullets, also referred to as point-of-lay pullets, are young egg laying chickens that are within a couple of weeks of laying. For example, a ready-to-lay red sexlink will be purchased when then are 16 to 17 weeks of age; they will begin laying pullet eggs at 19 weeks of age under optimal conditions.
Point of lay pullets differ from started pullets in age. While some people may sell started pullets that are ready to lay, started pullets can actually define any developing egg layer from a few weeks old to the onset of lay. Just be careful and ask the right questions when you’re purchasing pullets. All the production sexlinks sold by Badgers will be ready to lay and will fall into that 16 to 17 weeks of age. Starting in 2019, we will also sell started Speckled Sussex pullets, as available.
